ClearPlay - a review
These filters are built by the staff at ClearPlay and as a result are much smarter than machine generated filters such as the tvgaurdian. ClearPlay has an additional advantage in that it will filter not only language but a variety of unwanted movie themes, such as Immorality, gore, frightening images, dishonoring of parents, violence…..(hmmm half the movies on my shelf just got shortened from two hours to ten minutes)…..right down to flag desecration and rotting skeletons. Of course all the filters are fully customizable…..So if you want to watch gunfights or rotting skeletons you can turn that part of the filter off. This is the real deal. It cuts so well you can almost never tell when it cuts a scene.
So, if you like watching movies as a family and don't like watching offensive material, stop cursing the darkness and go buy a candle..ur um…ClearPlay DVD player. Here is a video of how the ClearPlay works. And here is the cheapest place to purchase the system.
One more note. You will need to purchase a DVD player AND a ClearPlay Membership in order to be able to download the filters from their website.

"Settled Science"
Last year, for instance, saw a drop in the global average temperature of nearly 0.7 degrees C (the largest single-year movement up or down since global temperature averages have been calculated). Despite advanced predictions that 2007 would be the warmest year on record, made by such UN associates as Britain's Hadley Centre, a government climate research agency, 2007 was the coolest year since at least 1993.
According to the U. S. National Climatic Data Center, the average temperature of the global land surface in January 2008 was below the 20th-Century mean for the first time since 1982.
Also in January, Southern Hemisphere sea ice coverage was at its greatest summer level (January is summer in the Southern Hemisphere) in the past 30 years.
Next they'll be telling us the world's population is exploding. HERE (watch that trailer)

Exciting News
Yesterday, a local farmer/friend, came by and plowed our pasture. He has been mowing it for several years and using the grass to feed his cattle. He has always commented on how rough the pasture is and has wanted to plow it up and smooth it out. So, he finally managed to get it done.
I'll see if I can get some pictures of it up on the blog today.

I'm $531,472 in Debt...
The federal government's long-term financial obligations grew by $2.5 trillion last year, a reflection of the mushrooming cost of Medicare and Social Security benefits as more baby boomers reach retirement. That's double the red ink of a year earlier.
Taxpayers are on the hook for a record $57.3 trillion in federal liabilities to cover the lifetime benefits of everyone eligible for Medicare, Social Security and other government programs, a USA TODAY analysis found. That's nearly $500,000 per household.
When obligations of state and local governments are added, the total rises to $61.7 trillion, or $531,472 per household. That is more than four times what Americans owe in personal debt such as mortgages.

Vice & Virtue
"I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice! And let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue!" -- Barry Goldwater
...and it made me think of...
Micah 6:8 He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?
Remember, living right is not complicated; it may be difficult, but it's not complicated.
The Christian ideal has not been tried and found wanting. It has been found difficult and left untried. -- G. K. Chesterton

Supply and Demand
We need to be aware of the tactic used by those who are willing to take our rights away. We need to understand what these folks are considering in "our" best interest.
So, here is the first quote - "A man can never have too many books, too much red wine or too much ammunition." -- Rudyard Kipling
I wonder what our reaction would be if those we have placed in office decided to regulate and restrict our abilities to purchase books. I wonder what we would do if laws were passed that required us to register each and every book purchase with the local, state and federal government. (I hope I'm not giving them any ideas)
